Get connected
Before you start
Your fibre box (the ONT) is installed on the wall and its lights are on. You need your router and a network (Ethernet) cable. The cable usually comes with the router.
1. Plug your router into the fibre box
Plug one end of the cable into the first network port on the fibre box (marked LAN 1, GE 1 or ETH 1). Plug the other end into the internet port on your router (marked WAN or Internet, often a different colour). Switch the router on and give it two minutes.
2. Sign in to your router
Look at the sticker under your router. It shows the Wi-Fi name and password, the router's address (often 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1) and the admin username and password. Connect your phone or laptop to the router's Wi-Fi, open a browser and type in the router's address. Sign in with the admin details from the sticker.
3. Set the internet connection to DHCP
In the router's settings open Internet, WAN or Quick setup. Set the connection type to DHCP (it may be called Dynamic IP or Automatic) and save. If we told you your service uses PPPoE, choose PPPoE instead and enter the username and password shown in My account.
4. Set up your Wi-Fi
Change the Wi-Fi name and password if you like, save, and connect your devices to the new network.
5. Activate your service
Open the activation link we sent you by WhatsApp or email and follow the steps. Once it's done, open any website to check that you're online.
Still not online?
Check the lights on the fibre box: a red light (LOS or Alarm) means the fibre signal isn't reaching your home, so contact us and don't unplug the fibre cable. Otherwise switch the fibre box and the router off for 30 seconds and on again. Still stuck? WhatsApp us on 077 601 9592 or email support@hopfibre.co.za with your account number and we'll help.
